Information for Schools

We are CameraKids – a specialist provider of after school photography clubs to KS2 primary school children (Y3 – 6) in the Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, London and surrounding areas.  Established 4 years ago by Andrew Hind, a fully qualified visual arts teacher with more than 20 years of teaching experience, CameraKids has delivered courses to over 1000 children in more than 100 different schools. We are taking bookings now for next term and would love  your school to be a part of our plans.

So who are we & what do we do?

We help children to develop their self-confidence through creative expression. We use digital photography as a vehicle to do this – using cameras to help them to better connect with their physical surroundings.

Our work helps children to develop and enhance their story-telling repertoire, by improving their visual communication skills, examining composition, tonality & meaning in photographs.

Our work has a contemporary feel, connecting the children to the photographic styles of modern photographers such a Martin Parr, David Hockney and Corinne Day as we find that this inspires progress.

CameraKids isn’t just about camera technique; above all we are about having fun and making great pictures.

We want the children coming to our clubs to enjoy picture taking and learn the skills that will set them off on a lifetime of photographic enjoyment & creative thinking.

By providing classes in the familiar school setting, where learning is valued, we also encourage them to develop broader lifelong and highly transferable skills such as research & observation, collaboration and critical-thinking.

Whether it’s the elation that goes hand-in-hand with a child producing their first ever ‘Wallace & Gromit’ style stop-motion ‘mini-movie’ using photographs they have created or seeing their pictures simply take shape, our sessions are bound to capture young imaginations.

We have invested heavily in the development of each project, which is clearly structured, with defined outcomes and set within the context of the National Curriculum.

We usually work after school (generally between 3.30pm and 4.30pm) and visit each school for a ten week period, in which children will cover 2 creative projects and take home a total of 4 final ‘creations’ that they’ve made using their photographs.

In the past we have made mobiles, photo key rings, slideshows, YouTube videos, calendars, Christmas cards and fridge magnets to name but a few!

Children also take part in fun, stimulating photography challenges, scavenger hunts and games, so that energy levels are maintained & they are fully engaged.

Our club leaders provide all digital cameras, equipment & materials and our clubs run with 10 – 14 children in each, who will pair up on projects as well as work individually. We make sure that each week the children see and discuss their work from the previous week and work hard to ensure that all children, whatever their ability, make progress and enjoy themselves. The leaders themselves are fully DBS-checked and are frequently teachers or professional photographers with a passion for teaching photography and passing on their skills.

Clubs cost £6 per child per session or £60 per child/per 10-week term.

Our price includes include all equipment & materials, with sessions led by highly-trained staff.
